🧠 The System Running the Show
Your nervous system is the command centre of your body. It controls everything — your heartbeat, breathing, digestion, focus, energy, and emotional balance.
When it’s healthy, communication between your brain and body flows smoothly. You feel calm, adaptable, strong, and energised.
But when your nervous system becomes irritated — from stress, poor posture, or spinal joint dysfunctions (subluxations) — that flow gets disrupted. Over time, you might start to notice fatigue, tension, brain fog, or even anxiety.
At Limitless Chiropractic in Wellington, we see how powerful it can be when people reconnect that brain–body link. The best part? You can start tuning in yourself with two simple at-home checks.
⚡️Signs of a Healthy Nervous System
- Deep, restful sleep and good recovery after stress or exercise
- Steady mood and emotional balance
- Smooth digestion and regular bowel habits
- Relaxed breathing and posture
- Consistent energy levels throughout the day
If that’s you — your nervous system is likely thriving. If not, the following tests will help you get a clearer picture.
🔍 Two Simple At-Home Tests for Your Nervous System
1. Balance Test – The Body–Brain Connection
Stand on one leg (eyes open) and see how long you can hold your balance.
- ✅ Healthy Response: You can stay steady for 30 seconds or longer without wobbling.
- ⚠️ Possible Nervous System Stress: If you sway or struggle to balance, it may suggest your brain’s communication with your body’s postural control systems isn’t firing efficiently.
This is one of the simplest windows into your proprioceptive system — your body’s built-in movement sensors. When your spinal joints lose proper motion (known as subluxations), those sensors send distorted signals to your brain, affecting balance, coordination, and even focus.
2. Breathing Awareness – The Calm Check
Lie on your back with one hand on your chest and the other on your belly.
- ✅ Healthy Response: The hand on your belly rises first — showing deep, diaphragmatic breathing.
- ⚠️ Possible Nervous System Stress: If your chest rises first, your body might be stuck in “fight or flight” mode.
Shallow, chest-dominant breathing often signals that your autonomic nervous system — the part that controls stress and recovery — is out of balance. Over time, this can lead to fatigue, sleep issues, and tension headaches.
💡 What It Means if You’re “Off”
If either of these tests feels difficult, don’t panic — it’s simply feedback. It tells you your nervous system may be under stress or that your spine isn’t moving the way it should.
When that happens, nerve communication becomes distorted — and that’s where chiropractic adjustments come in.
Through precise adjustments, chiropractors help restore proper motion to the spinal joints. This reactivates clear communication between the brain and body, improving coordination, relaxation, and adaptability. Research shows spinal adjustments can affect brain processing and sensorimotor control, leading to more efficient neural communication (Haavik & Murphy, JMPT, 2012).
🌿 Supporting a Healthy Nervous System Daily
- Get regular chiropractic adjustments 🌀
- Move your body — strength, mobility, or BFT training
- Prioritise deep, consistent sleep
- Eat nutrient-rich whole foods
- Spend time outdoors in natural light
- Breathe deeply and often
⚙️ Reconnect and Reset
Your nervous system determines how well you function, not just how you feel.
If your body is tense, your breathing shallow, or your balance off, it’s a sign your system might need some recalibration.
At Limitless Chiropractic, our mission is to help Wellington move, feel, and live limitlessly by restoring proper nervous system function through specific chiropractic adjustments.
Because when your spine moves better, you move better — in every sense of the word.
